Installing NovaView 32bit Server in a 64bit machine

SUMMARY
This article related to NovaView 5.0 and 5.5.
The IIS configuration change part is irrelevant for NovaView 6.0, though in some issues it might be useful.
You can install a standard 32-bit Panorama NovaView Server on a 64-bit machine. However, you should note that Panorama NovaView Server doesn't run on 64-bit, but rather Windows emulates a 32-bit enviornment for it.

A compatibility issue exists regarding the Internet Information Services (IIS) web server. As Panorama NovaView Server is strongly integrated with IIS, IIS has to run also in 32-bit mode to be compatible with the 32bit ISAPI extensions.

CAUSE
IIS server running in 64bit mode and it is unable to execute 32bit ISAPI extensions, without switching IIS from working on 64bit mode to 32bit emulation mode.

NOTE: Changing the IIS to run on a 32-bit Web application mode, will conflict with software that requires IIS to run on 64bit mode, such as Microsoft SQL 2005 Reporting Services.
SOLUTION
This solution is based on Microsoft KB article:
Running 32-bit Applications on 64-bit Windows (IIS 6.0)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/0aafb9a0-1b1c-4a39-ac9a-994adc902485.mspx
On a new Windows 64bit installation, follow these steps:
  1. Install all the Panorama NovaView prerequisites including IIS, OLAP connectivity software and JVM or .NET framework.
Please see KB article Software Requirement for NovaView Intelligence Server for details.
  2. Locate the adsutil.vbs file. This file is an IIS administrative script and can be located under Inetpub\AdminScripts or sometimes in another directory.
  3. Open command prompt (Start>Run) and change to the directory in which absutil.vbs is located.
  4. The following command (executed in the Run window, the Open field), enables IIS to run 32 bit applications. Execute: "cscript.exe adsutil.vbs set W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32BitAppOnWin64 1 "
  5. To check that the property was set correctly run: "cscript.exe adsutil.vbs get W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32BitAppOnWin64", the property value should appear as True.
  6. Change directory to the "%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework". In this directory there are subdirectories for different .NET Framework versions.
  7. Change to the .NET 2.0 (not 1.1) directory that you have. A utility aspnet_regiis.exe should be under that directory. An example is the following path: "%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.40607"
  8. Execute "aspnet_regiis.exe –I" in some cases this can be "aspnet_regiis.exe /i". This command will register ASP .NET component which is necessary for our installation. Warnings can appear during the registration, ignore these unless critical errors occur.
  9. Install Panorama NovaView Intelligence Server platform.
  10. Follow the standard instructions outlined in the Panorama Intelligence Server installation and configuration document
Please see KB arctile NovaView 5.0 in Windows 2003 Server Installation Walkthrough or  NovaView 4.5 in Windows 2003 Server Installation Walkthrough for details.
  11. Check the system by testing Panorama Web Access.

NOTE: All articles that suggest some changes to be done  in  the  Registry  will  point to  different  key  that  is : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Panorama\NovaView #.#\Admin
instead of key in 32-bit Operating Systems (
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Panorama\NovaView #.#\Admin)
