Data Execution Prevention feature of Windows Server 2008 can cause the Panorama 6.0 installation package to crash.

During installation of Panorama 6.0, the installation package crashes unexpectedly, with a message similar to the following:

This is caused by a feature of Windows Server 2008 called Data Execution Prevention (read more about it here). You will need to exclude the NovaView Installation Package from the DEP, so that it can run without interruption.

Note: After performing the following solutions, but before attempting to re-install NovaView, you must make sure that the previous failed installation did not leave any traces on the machine, which could interfere with any following installation. Go over this article and delete any such traces manually.

There are two methods for doing so - either disabling DEP altogether (recommended, as it may interfere with NovaView's funcionality again in the future), or leaving it on but using the OptOut option to exclude the installation package.

Method #1 - Disabling DEP

Use the method described here.

1. Right-click on the Command Prompt (cmd), and select "Run As Administrator".
2. Execute the following command:  bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
3. Make sure to restart your machine for the change to take effect.

After restart, attempt the installation again. If it fails again, attempt the following method:

Method #2 - Opting out of DEP

1. Right-click on the Command Prompt (cmd), and select "Run As Administrator".
2. Execute the following command:  bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptOut
3. Make sure to restart your machine for the change to take effect.
4. After restart, the UI for DEP will be enabled. Right click on Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings ->Advanced tab -> Performance -> Settings -> Advanced -> Data Execution Prevention tab 
5. Select the second bullet, "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"
6. Click on "Add..."
7. Locate the Panorama NovaView Suite Installation executable file, and select it.
8. Click OK.
