Rich/Light charts issues

SUMMARY

This article is mostly related to Rich/Light charts component in Dashboard, which does not load, or loads with error. Also, this article related ti users that prefer to run Web Access client with J# instead of Sun/MS Java.

Users are having problem running the J# browser, all they see is a grey or white screen, or error messages like "Java Lang Security Exceptions..."

CAUSE

There are a few typical causes:

  1. IIS configuration problem
  2. Missing J# support files on the user's machine
  3. Having J# installed, but permission settings has not been set
  4. Incompatible version of .NET and J# installed
SOLUTION

IIS Configuration

For the J# Client to work properly, the JSharp folder in the IIS must be set to Script Only, see screenshot for detail.

Note: There are a total of 3 folders that require this setting for Panorama NovaView Server to work with J#:

  1. Deliveries/Config/JSharp
  2. JSharp
  3. Temp/JSharp

Internet Explorer Options

For all client machines IE need to be configured to have the Panorama server in the Trusted Sites. While just recommended for other features, having the server in Trusted Sites is mandatory for the Dundas (Advanced) Charts.

NOTE: The problem could be Mozilla Firefox as default browser while installing J#. If it is the case, please switch to MS IE as default (Tools/Internet Options/Programs and on the bottom Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box and select IE next time open)
