How to change Panorama Database name / SQL Login user or SQL Login password for PanoramaDbUser

Summary
How to change Panorama Database name / SQL Login user / SQL Login password for SQL user used by Panorama
Scenario

There are 2 ways to change those settings: automatic and manual.

The automatic way allows to set new SQL server name and optionally set new SQL user and password.

Automatic

Manual

Default Panorama NovaView configuration for SQL:

Default SQL user named PanoramaDbUser.

Standard Panorama 6.x installation creates 5 databases (Without UDC component - only 3) and 1 SQL User to connect to all of them. Panorama 5.5 and 5.0 creates only 2 databases (the two first shown in the list below).
The databases names are:

  1. Panorama
  2. PanoramaDashboard
  3. PanoramaAdminDB
  4. PanoramaCubeGeneratorDB (Exists only is UDC components installed)
  5. PanoramaCubeGeneratorIntegrationDB (Exists only is UDC components installed)

Panorama NovaView version 6.x: Default username is PanoramaDbUser, default password is Password_1!
Panorama NovaView v 5.5/5.0: Default username is PanoramaDashboardUser, default password is Password_1!

Changing the port number, Server name, SQL name, SQL User name and password AFTER Panorama installation is not recommended. Those values should be set during installation. It is possible to change the SQL Username and it's password in SQL Management studio after installation, but it requires additional configuration on several Panorama configuration files, in order to work correctly.

Solution

Automatic

1. Open NovaView Administration green cube: Start>All programs>NovaView>Administration>Service Manager

2. Right click on green cube > Update DB Settings.

right-click-1

3. Update the required settings and restart all NovaView services.

Manual

For Panorama DB: C:\Program Files\Panorama\E-BI\Cache\Sql\ds.xml
For PanoramaDashboard DB: C:\Program Files\Panorama\E-BI\Dashboard\include\connstr.asp
For PanoramaCubeGenerator DB: C:\Program Files\Panorama\E-BI\Cube Service\Panorama.Cube.Services.exe.config, line 419
For PanoramaAdminDB:
C:\Program Files\Panorama\E-BI\UDC\Resources\LogConfig.xml (line 140)
C:\Program Files\Panorama\E-BI\Cube Service\Panorama.Cube.Services.exe.config (line 188)
C:\Program Files\Panorama\E-BI\Administration Service\Panorama.NovaView.Services.exe.config (line 168)

Click Start -> Programs -> Novaview -> Administration -> Service Manager. A green cube will appear in Windows' Taskbar. Right-click on it, go to Configuration -> Admin -> DB -> Change the Password there. Click "Apply Changes".

VERY Important note! Do not change ANY other values except SQL name, username and password in those configuration files, this will cause Panorama to malfunction.

Port change

Default Panorama port is 4444. This port must be opened in order to ensure correct Panorama work. If you choose not to work with default Panorama 4444 port, follow this article. DO NOT change ports in configuration files on your own, always consult Panorama support prior this operation.

Connectivity issues
Most common are connectivity issues after any of the changes mentioned above. Prior to changing anything in the server, perform a simple UDL test (Data link file test) from Panorama server. (How to perform a UDL test?)

If the UDL test to all Panorama database is successful, make sure the password in the configuration files and SQL server match each other. In case you are not sure about that, retype the password in SQL Server Management Studio, and ensure this is the exact password in all configuration files.
