Correct setup for using Rich and Design mode NovaView Visuals

Summary
This article will demonstrate the steps the required to properly setup a client or server machine to use the NovaView Visuals in Rich or Design Mode.
Scenario
When using NovaView Visuals in either Rich or Design Mode, we require that .NET Framework, .NET Framework SDK and Visual J# are installed on any client machine, along with a number of other settings for security purposes.
Note: We strongly recommend that most users use the Light mode Visuals, as these don't require any client-side installations and are much easier to deploy. Most users have no need of the Rich mode Visuals. We recommend you only deploy them to the developers who need them.
Solution

On the NovaView Server machine:
A. Install the software requirements:
1. Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 (version 2.0.50727 or newer)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

2. Microsoft Visual J# Version 2.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

B. Configure the IIS (Start-> inetmgr):

Under the Panorama site (or the Default Web Site if it is used for Panorama), Panorama directory, change the execute permissions for the NetComponents and JSharp directories to "scripts only".

In IIS 6 (Windows 2003):

In IIS 7 (Windows 2008):

Click on the folder name --> Handler Mappings --> Edit Feature Permissions, make sure only Read and Script are checked.

On the client's machine

These settings need to be performed for any client machine that wishes to use Rich Mode Visuals, and on the NovaView server as well.

A. .NET Configuration Settings

1. Install the Microsoft .Net Framework SDK, available here.

2. Run Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework Configuration

3. Click "Manage the Assembly Cache"

4. Open Runtime Security Policy
5. Drill down to Machine >> Code Group >> All_Code
6. For each of the zones LocalIntranet_Zone, Internet_Zone and Trusted_Zone, right click on the Zone --> Properties --> Permission Set. Set Permission Set to 'FullTrust' and Membership Condition to 'All Code'.

Internet Explorer Options

B. Add the NovaView server to the Trusted Sites zone in Internet Explorer. While just recommended for other features, having the server in Trusted Sites is mandatory for the Dundas (Advanced) Charts.

C. Prior to first running the NovaView Visuals in Design or Rich mode, clear the IE cookies and cache, and go to the users profile (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data) and delete the Assembly and Deployment folders.
