Before installing Panoramaâ„¢ Necto, please install and configure the requirements stated in this document.
The below document is related to new installation only.
Preparations:
- Creating valid Active Directory user and provide nessecary permissions (see permissions section)
- Run NovaView pre-requisites checker
- Install the required pre-requisitesas stated in tabs of this article.
Supported Operating Systems
You can install Panorama Necto on Windows 2008 or 2008R2 64 SERVER ENVIRONMENT only.
Installation location
Panorama NovaView can be installed only on a server within a domain.
Workgroup enviroment is not supported nor recommended.
SQL - location of Panorama databases
During the installation, Necto creates 4 databases on SQL server.
SQL can be either on same machine with Necto installation or remote server. When the intended SQL located on remote server, make sure that the user that runs the installation has sufficient permissions to create the databases on remote SQL server - see permission requirements
Necto installation works with SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008 (as SQL repositories for the internal databases. This does not relate to the datasource, i.e., the OLAP cubes). Note: SQL Server 2000 is not supported and will not work with Necto v.11
It is possible to use SQL Express Edition on testing server, but it is not recommended to use SQL Express Edition on production environment, because of database size limitations.
If you install the SQL Express Edition it does not include the Mangement Studio GUI portion, if you want to use this to view the databases it can be downloaded from here
OLAP - location of data source
- Microsoft Analysis Services 2005 and 2008 are supported in Necto. Microsoft Analysis Services 2000 is NOT supported and will not work with Necto product.
- OLAP must be in same domain with Panorama server.
- When using the UDC (Universal Data Connector), Analysis Services Server and the Panorama SQL databases have to be installed on the same physical machine. When this machine is remote to the Panorama server, you will need to perform further configuration, described here
Ports
Ports that should be opened:
- Port 4444 - for Panorama web site (this is default by installation, but can be changed, though not recommended).Make sure port 4444 is not blocked by firewall or third-party software; if you are unable to open this port, please consult this article for changing the default port.
- Port 2383 for connection to Analysis Services
- Ports 9985, 9999, 9961 for Necto services.
Ports checking can be done on this link: http://www.wfu.edu/~borwicjh/howto/port-test.htm
- You must be logged in as Server Administrator when performing Necto installation.
- The setup will require an Active Directory user which will be running the Necto services. Please make sure prior to the installation that you have credentials of a single user which meets these demands:
- An administrator on the Necto machine (My Computer -> Manage -> Local User and Groups -> Groups -> Administrators; add the user to this group).
- An administrator on the SQL server (Verify this by going to SQL Server Management -> Security -> Server Roles -> examine the membership of the sysadmin role).
- An administrator on the OLAP server (Verify this by going to SQL Server Management -> Right-click on the server name -> Properties -> Security -> Add the user to the list of users).
Note, the Necto Helper installs all listed things automatically. The list exists only as a checklist to verify the components installed.
- Windows components
- .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. The installation must be performed through "Feature Installation" at Server Manager.
- Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0
- Microsoft SQL Native Client (Included on your Microsoft SQL Installation CD)
- Microsoft SQL Client Components (Included in the Microsoft SQL Installation CD)( SQL 2005), ( SQL 2008)
- When Analysis Services server is remote to the Panorama server, the relevant connectivity driver must be installed:
- For SQL 2008: You will need SQL 2005 Backward Compatibility. You can find it in the following link
Note: Windows 2008 32 bit system isn't supported by Panorama Necto
